ABOUT

Nicole Rowntree portrait - About page

Nicole Rowntree is a British Contemporary Abstract Artist.

As a painter, my approach is intuitive. My works are expressions of abstraction, impulsive strokes and gestures, loosely based on remembered landscapes. My process explores the dynamic relationship between form, colour and energetic mark making. This continual exchange of layering colour, texture and structure evolves as an emotional response to my chosen materials and surface which is at the core of my practice. I work instinctively to create abstract organic composition and form.

My previous work as a professional photographer and my passion for capturing the subtle interplay between subject, structure, light  and colour, is a concept which has greatly influenced and inspired the feel and energy of my paintings.

Having studied art in the UK from an early age, I went on to study photography in Sydney, Australia and worked as a commercial photographer for over 15 years with many prestigious magazines, architects and interior designers worldwide.

I currently live in the Surrey Hills, Uk, AONB  (area of outstanding natural beauty), which is a constant source of inspiration to me.
